Jean Armbruster

Jean Armbruster, age 84, of Ellis passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society, Hays. She was born August 11, 1932 in Norton County, Kansas to William Jesse and Mary Katherine (Johnson) Bowman. She married Larry Armbruster May 26, 1973 in Colby, Kansas.

She had worked at Alco for 18 years as a supervisor and also had worked for Ellis Flower Shop and in the clubhouse at Ellis Country Club. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening and ceramics.

She is survived by her husband, Larry of Ellis; a daughter, Jennie Cersovsky and husband John of Ellis, KS; five sons, Warren Houghton of Parsons, KS, Rodney Houghton and wife Maxine of Kingman, KS, Kevin Houghton and wife Alison of Pennsecola, FL, Bruce Houghton and wife Kim of Ellis and Brian Houghton of Georgia; two step daughters, Suzanne Canar of Little Rock, AR and Charyn Armbruster of Ft. Collins, CO; a step son, Alan Armbruster of Lasalle, CO; a sister, Betty Brown and husband Leroy of Jennings, KS; three brothers, Jimmy Bowman and wife Kathy of Belleville, KS, Robert Bowman of Norton, KS and Richard Bowman of Texas; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jay and Leroy Bowman; a grandson, Eric McDonald; infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Houghton and a step grandson, Brendan Armbruster.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Ellis. There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice at Hays Medical Center or to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org)
