Emil Deutscher

Emil A. Deutscher, age 81, of Ellis passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. He was born March 1, 1932 in rural Trego County on the family farm to Emil Deutscher Sr. and Jennie Wendling. He graduated from Ellis High School in 1950. He married Marilyn Schumacher October 24, 1954 at Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis.

Emil was a farmer and stockman as well as a rural mail carrier for 30 years. He received a Kansas Bankers Association award in 1964. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Ellis where he served several terms on the church council and served as Sunday school superintendent. He was past president of the Ellis High School Alumni Association and a member of the Ellis Rotary Club receiving the Paul Harris award.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Ellis; a son, Bradley Emil Deutscher and wife Jill of Tulsa; three daughters, Nanette Foore and husband Ron of Owasso, OK., Brenda Smith and husband Phil of Plano, TX. And Tammy Hollern and husband Marty of Ellis; a brother, Dr. Gene Deutscher of North Platte, NE; three sisters, Alberta Breit of Long Beach, CA., Hermine Burg of Long Beach, CA. and Carol Keller of Wichita, KS; ten grandchildren, Kayla, Shelby and Jenny Hollern, Marissa Foore, Tyler, Trenton, Justin and Anna Smith and Thomas Emil and Michael Stephen Deutscher. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Verlin Deutscher.

Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, October 14, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church. Burial will follow services in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis.

Visitation will be Sunday 6 PM - 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM all at Keithley Funeral Chapel ~ 400 E. 17th ~ Ellis, KS. 67637. Monday visitation will be 9:30 AM until service time at the church.
