Doris Applehans

Doris (Walters) Applehans, age 87 of Hays, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born July 20, 1926 in Severin, Kansas to Peter and Mary (Staab) Walters. She was a 1944 graduate of Girls Catholic High School. She married Sylvester "S.J." Applehans April 19, 1948. He preceded her in death August 29, 2013.

Doris was a beautician for many years owning and operating Doriss Beauty Salon. She was a charter member of Saint Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Perpetual Adorer and Associate of the Sisters of St. Agnes.

She is survived by sons, Allen Applehans and wife Apryl of Yuma, AZ., Gary Applehans of Springfield, MO; a daughter, Lois Applehans of Oklahoma City, OK; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 16 step great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers, Francis, Edwin, William, Fidelis, Linus, Vincent, Clarence and Mathias and seven sisters, Vera Pfeifer, Scholastica Leiker, Alexia Munk, Mary Ann Schulte and infants Lucida, Mary and Scholastica.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 14, 2013 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church in Hays. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
