Obituary



Anne Christine (Kelly) Walters, age 69, of Hays, KS, passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Via Christi Village in Hays.

She was born September 18, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to John Lawrence Kelly and Dorothy Jeanne (Peters) Kelly. At age 7 the family moved to the Kansas City area settling in Leawood, Kansas.

She graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in 1967. She received her nursing degree from Avila College in Kansas City. After being employed at General Hospital and Menorah Medical Center in Kansas City she entered medical school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She interned at Truman Medical Center.

Chris (Dr. Chris by her patients) moved to Hays in 1982 and joined Surgical Associates. After marrying Jim Walters on May 29, 1987, she started a medical/surgical practice specifically for the disease of the breast. Her patients frequently called themselves "Kelly Girls". Chris devoted herself to her faith, family and patients. She retired in 2010 due to Alzheimer's Disease.

She was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church where she also served on church council, Cancer Council and multiple medical organizations.

She is survived by her husband Jim of the home; two daughters, Jamie Walters of Kansas City and Jackie Hertel and husband Matt of San Diego, CA; a step son, Jason Walters and wife Kerri and their daughter Natalie all of Eules, TX; a sister, Barb Kelly of Kansas City; a sister-in-law, Janet Kelly and her son, Jack of Wentsville, MO; a sister, a sister-in-law, Karen Dreher and husband Ron of Hays; a brother-in-law, Herb Walters of Hays and a sister-in-law, Marie Shields of St. John, KS as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents John in 1965 and Dorothy in 1997 and a brother John in 2014.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 12, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 201 W. 13th St., Hays, KS. Inurnment will follow services at St. Josephs Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Monday from 10:00 to 10:30 A.M. all at Brocks-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine St., Hays, KS 67601.

A rosary service will be recited at 7:00 P.M., followed by a parish vigil service all at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Holy Family Elementary School and/or TMP-Marian. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
