George Nelson Crawford III, age 46 of Ellis, passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 in Ellis. He was born March 11, 1972 in WaKeeney, Kansas to George and Joyce (Sekavec) Crawford Jr. He graduated from Ellis High School in 1990. On November 11, 2011 he married Alyssa (Nelson) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis.
George proudly served his country in Operation Desert Storm as a US Marine attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was currently a Heavy Equipment Operator for Trego County Road and Bridge Department. George was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He had served on the parish council, St. Mary’s School council and taught CCD classes. He was a 3rd degree member of the Ellis Knights of Columbus, and a charter member of the E.A. Schumacher Marine Corps League #740 in Hays. He was an avid baseball fan of the Kansas City Royals and truly enjoyed youth baseball as a fan and as a coach. Faith, family and friends were of utmost important to George.
George is survived by his wife Alyssa of Ellis; his mother, Joyce Crawford of rural Ellis; three sons, George IV, Daniel and William Crawford as well as four daughters, Samantha, Clara, Mali and Maja Crawford all of Ellis as well as two sisters, Rebecca Crawford of Russell, KS and Laura Pechanec and husband Kurt of Rush Center, KS.
He was preceded in death by his Father, George Crawford Jr.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial will follow with military honors courtesy of the Ellis VFW Honor Guard and the Hays VFW Honor Guard Rifle Squad.
Visitation will be Tuesday 6 PM - 8 PM with a combined Knights of Columbus rosary and parish vigil service at 7:30 PM all at the church.
